Erik Karff
Erik is a popshop! OG who has been comes from a long line of music lovers. His earliest memories include his mother driving him around Long Island in her Firebird blasting the classics like Blondie, The Police & The Beatles on her car stereo. His grandfather was a multi-talented musician, playing alto & tenor sax, violin & clarinet. During his long career he performed for English royalty as well as on recordings by Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder & Aretha Franklin.
In the 90s, Erik immersed himself in NYC's underground nightlife scene where he became involved in events promotion & production. Erik's tastes range from Motown, Stax & Girl Groups to Hip Hop and roots reggae to New Wave, Brazilian, French as well as current dance jams.
From 2005 to 2009, Erik co-hosted the hugely popular weekly: The Phantastic Invisible Tentacle at Beauty Bar with musician Stephin Merritt (of the legendary Magnetic Fields). He has spun at & promoted exclusive parties for the likes John Waters & Smashing Pumpkins.
Current gigs include:
- LoveDolls Superstar at Beauty Bar in Manhattan -- Gritty rock 'n roll & soul from across the decades. DJ Go-Karff & guest DJs like Michael T, Stephin Merritt, etc. (Every Monday -- weekly!)
- QxBxRx at Cake Shop in the Lower East Side. Rated by the Village Voice as "the best gay hipster rock & roll party", QxBxRx features live music & DJs. (First Saturday of every month)
- He's a Rebel at Nowhere Bar in Manhattan DJs AS IF and Go-Karff bring you the best in novelty dance crazes, Northern Soul, British Invasion, garage psychedelia, teen idols & girl groups to keep your feet stomping & your hands clapping. (Second Friday of every month)
